Soil: Plant parsley in moist, loamy, well-turned soil. Incorporate rich compost early in the growing season, just as you're planting your parsley.
Water: Although parsley grows its best in moist soil.
Varieties: there are two basic varieties of parsley – flat leaf and curly leaf. The flat leaf parsley (often called Continental or Italian parsley) has a stronger flavour than the curly leaf parsley. Both are excellent in cooking, and both are well worth growing in your garden.
Indoor parsley care is easy. Keep the soil lightly moist, and empty the saucer under the pot after every watering so that the roots don't sit in water. Feed the plants every two weeks with half-strength liquid fertilizer. You can grow other herbs in the container with parsley, if desired.
Harvest parsley by clipping stems just above the soil. Parsley looks and tastes best when it is fresh, so only take as much as you need at one time. The plant replenishes itself quickly.
Growing Parsley Outdoors:- Parsley prefers a heavy soil - too light, and the plants are 'leggy' so if your soil is sandy, then add some clay, loam or manure to the planting area.
The perfect aspect for growing parsley is partial shade - too much sun will damage the oils in the leaves - they will shrivel up in the sun and be too damaged even to claim you've 'dried' the parsley!
Remove any really straggly plants and give some extra tender loving care to the ones that are left.
If the plants are really leggy, then it may be that the soil is wrong for them.
Re-planting: parsley doesn't last forever, but it will last from one to two years, depending on where it's grown, so when it starts to send up seed heads, it's time to replace the plants. However, if you let some of your parsley plants go fully to seed, there's every chance these seeds will sprout and your parsley patch could become alive and you won't have to buy any more seeds or seedlings.
